Coaches Update 10/13

I Would like to start by saying thank you to all of the parents who helped with timing this past week! Without you it would be hard to run a swim meet successfully!! We had two fun meets last week starting with Saguaro and then ending Saturday night with the SNF Invite. The athletes had a lot of fun at both meets, especially the SNF Invite.. there was quite a bit of dancing going on in between their events! I think this helped by keeping them warn and also helping them warmup for their events! :)

Here is our schedule for this week: Monday is our mandatory practice as we have a meet against Liberty on Tuesday. Please remember that everyone has to be at PHS no later than 2:30 to catch the bus to the meet. After the meet we will be celebrating our seniors with pizza and drinks.
Thursday is our annual pasta party which will be hosted by the Tatman's. A big thank you to the Tatman's for opening their home to the team!
Friday is our District meet at Foothills Aquatic Center. Warm up for this meet is 5:30PM and meet start time is 6:05PM. So, as you can see.. we have a bit of a busy schedule this week.

Once again, I will be asking for volunteers from our fabulous parents to help with timing for our meet against Liberty on Tuesday and we also have to supply our own timers for the District Meet. Please let any of the coaches know if you would be willing to help us at either meet or both meets if possible. Thank you in advance for your help.

October 25th we would like to go to Castle & Coasters to do the Team Building Rope Course. The cost for this would be $18.75 per individual. We would like to get as many of you as possible to do this. This would be a fun night to relax and have fun doing this agility course and then hanging out after and riding the roller coaster and enjoying all the fun activities that are provided by C&C. If you would like to attend please have your money to us no later than Wednesday. Thanks!

STRENGTH does not come from winning. Your struggles DEVELOP your strengths. When you go through HARDSHIPS AND DECIDE not to surrender, THAT IS STRENGTH.

See you on deck,

Coach Update - 10/7/2013

Hi to all,

I hope everyone enjoyed their weekend and got a lot of rest because we are now into our second half of the swim & dive season and we will be very busy for the next several weeks.

This week we have a home meet against Saguaro on Thursday and the Saturday Night Fever Invite on Saturday night! The coaches will go over all information regarding both of these meets this Wednesday at mandatory practice.

Also, Wednesday is our team picture night. For those of you who are planning on having individual pics taken.. please arrive no later than 6:15PM.. and everyone else please be on time at 6:30PM. Please wear your team suits!!

We are in need of a few things this week from parents. For our home meet we will need 12 timers along with a head timer and a runner to pick up the timer sheets..so a total of 14 of you lovely parents to help out with this would be terrific.

We also need to have two timers for the SNF Invite for Saturday night. Please let me know who would be available to help with this so I can add your names to the list of timers for the invitational. Those who would like to help with this have free admission to the invite.

Whew.. I think that's everything! :)

FAILURE: It can destroy you or make you really mad that you WORK EVEN HARDER to become the WINNERS YOU KNOW YOU ARE!

IT'S OUR TIME!

Enjoy,

9/23 - Coach Update

Last week was an absolutely great week of swimming for us. Between the dual meet with Arcadia and the Wolves Invitational on Saturday we were able to watch some amazing swimming. So many of you hit personal best times at either meet and all of the automatic and conditional times that many of you received on Saturday was outstanding!! I know personally for me that I couldn't have asked anymore from any of you. We as your coaches are so proud of everyone of you and are really happy about how this team has come together to support each other. We are truly blessed to be part of such an amazing group of athletes. Thank you!!

Just a quick shout out to Kaitlyn Kennedy who placed 9th overall at the Wolves Diving Invite last week. Her score was 267.45 which qualified her to move forward to the State Diving Qualifying meet! Tye Butler placed 15th overall with a new personal best score of 249.95!! Congrats to both of you!

This week we will be swimming against Boulder Creek in Athem. The address of the pool is 41130 N. Freedom Way, Anthem 85086. This should be a fun meet for us as we haven't had the chance to swim against them until this week. Saturday will be the Brophy/Xavier Invite at Phoenix Swim Club. This is always a great invite for us and another chance for state qualifying times!

We will discuss both meets this week with the team at our mandatory practice on Wednesday.

I also wanted to thank the families and friends who come to our meets to support us. It is greatly appreciated and I know the athletes love having your there cheering them on! Thank you for all of your support.

STRENGTH doesn't come from what you CAN do. IT comes form OVERCOMING the things you once thought YOU COULDN'T.

9/2/2013 - Coach Laura Update

Happy Labor Day to all,

quick reminder that there is no practice tonight due to the holiday!

I wanted to remind everyone that you will need to meet in the Athletic building (E building) right after school on Tuesday. Your coaches along with the captains will be handing out your team polos to you prior to getting on the bus to go to our first home meet of the season!! YAY When you arrive at PV Pool you will then receive your team suit. As of Friday afternoon East Valley Sports was still waiting on 8 size 24  and 4 size 30 girls suits to arrive. Nike promised to have them shipped overnight to EVS and I'm hoping that they will arrive on time for Tuesdays meet. Our team swim caps will not be ready in time for our first meet but we will have them for the Brophy/Xavier meet!

Since we are not meeting tonight.. Jenny and Paige will let everyone know on the bus ride over who will be swimming in the meet. Everyone will warm up with the team prior to the swim meet whether you are swimming or not. Remember, we are a team and we warm up together and support the athletes who will be swimming.

We will be having our mandatory practice as usual on Wed. and we will be holding practice on Thurs and Fri. I know some of you will be out of town and have already contacted the coaches regarding this. If you're in town for the 4 day break.. you are expected to be at practice. :)

I hope everyone has enjoyed the last 3 days and I can't wait for our first swim meet of the season!! I look forward to seeing all of you tomorrow and this first meet is our start to showing everyone who the best team is in the state!! We will do this one swim meet at a time! :)

IT WILL HURT. IT WILL TAKE TIME. IT WILL REQUIRE DEDICATION. IT WILL REQUIRE WILLPOWER. You will need to make healthy decisions. IT REQUIRES SACRIFICE. You will need to push your body to its max. THERE WILL BE TEMPTATION. But, I promise you, when you reach your goal, IT'S WORTH IT!!!

Message from Coach Laura

Just a couple of quick reminders for you. This Wednesday is our mandatory practice as well as our "Swim-A-Thon!" Club swimmers.. please have your club practice forms signed by your coaches and turn them in when you arrive at the pool. Mrs. LaPorte will be on deck to collect the booster fees. We will be having a quick team meeting prior to getting into the pool. Your coaches would like to go over meet expectations with you since our first swim meet of the season is next Tuesday following the Labor Day Holiday. Since we will not be practicing Monday night because of the holiday this will be the only time we can talk to the entire team.

Your coaches are extremely excited about getting this swim season going! It's is going to be an amazing season and I personally can't wait to see everyone competing and supporting each other and just enjoying the camaraderie of being PHS Swimmers!

Once again I will leave you with something to think about.

FROM COACH LAURA

I wanted to thank all of you for coming to the parent meeting yesterday. It was great to see all of you and to meet many of the new families joining our amazing team! I also wanted to apologize for not having enough packets for each family. I took into account how many student athletes we have on the team and made a few extra just in case. Apparently it was not enough. I will have copies with me all week at practice so if you were unable to get a hold of one please don't worry, you may pick one up when we see you at practice this week.

Please make sure to read over the "Code of Conduct" and sign it and also take time to fill out the form "tell us about you." This helps us to get to know you a little bit better and lets us know what events you like to swim. It is our job as your coaches to inspire you and to help you obtain your goals for the season. You as a swimmer or diver on the team must know that you will have to dig deep every so often and maybe make some sacrifices along the way to really obtain your goals. Your coaches are going to ask you to dig deep and work through the pain and the suffering during practice and in meets. We understand that it's hard and it sometimes hurts along the way but we are here to support you every step you take or even better.. every stroke you take! You're not alone and you have your teammates and families to support you as well. Remember.. it's not just being physically strong.. it's also being mentally strong. You can't have one without the other!

So I will leave you with this "cowards never start, the weak never finish, and winners never quit!"

News from Coach Laura - Meeting May 15th and Summer Strength Training

Hi PHS swimmers,

I hope all of you are doing well and I'm sure all of you are ready for the school year to be over! I know I am! :) I wanted to touch base to let you know that there will be a team meeting on May 15th during your lunch time. We will be discussing training over the summer and I will also be introducing to you the new assistant swim coach.

I'm hoping by the time we meet on the 15th that I will have our meet schedule. We will start swim practice on August 12th. I have not been given our practice time as of yet. Again, I'm hoping to have that information for you on the 15th. I also wanted to let you know that we will start strength training and cardio training July 8th. We will be meeting Monday-Thursday from 4:00-5:30PM in the PHS weight room for the month of July. This is mandatory. I know many of you may be traveling & vacationing during the month of July and that's great and I have no problem with this. However, if you're in town you will be expected to be in the weight room with your team. If you're a club swimmer you do not need to be there unless you have the free time and want a little more training time in the gym.

This is something that the PHS swim team hasn't done before.. but I feel strength training is an integral part of our training and you will feel the benefits of this once we're in the pool August 12th. I'm really looking forward to this part of the training with the team and I can't wait to get started!! :) We will talk more about this at our meeting on the 15th.

If you're receiving this email and you are either graduating or not planning on swimming with the team next season.. please let me know and I will remove you from the email list. Thanks for your help with this.

I look forward to seeing all of you on the 15th!!

Enjoy,
Coach Laura
