Ryan Klein - 4th in 500 free and 6th in 500 free

Boys 400 Free relay - 11th (Aaron, Matthew, James, Ryan)

Ally Yancy - State Champion in the 100 breast (All-American Automatic Time & school record), as well as 3rd place in the 200 IM
Hayley Hill - 4th place in 200 free and 500 free
Isabel Whited - 5th place in 200 free and 4th place in 100 fly (New school record!)
Gabby Lizzul - 8th place in 100 back and 13th in 100 fly
Grace LaPorte - 11th in 200 free and 12th in 500 free
Grace Robinson - 10th place in 100 back

Congratulations to the following athletes who also qualified for state and had the opportunity to compete: Emily Fitzgerald, Kennedy Forbes, Zoe Rosin, Paris Wierenga, Jessica Williams, Steele Forbes, Samuel Bolar, Ryan Neill, Jack Oebker.

And a BIG thank you to all our State Alternates (Blake, Hunter, Max, Kelsie, Jessie, and Casey) that came and supported the team by carrying equipment, counting, cheering their hearts out! :)

The coaches are so proud of everyone's efforts throughout the season. We enjoyed watching you reach your goals and can't wait to help you reach new ones next season. Most importantly, we loved seeing you grow in character by being decisive, an overcomer, noble, trustworthy, hardworking, obedient, loving, kind and great at discerning. You consistently believed in yourselves and had positiveattitudes along the way. That's what makes us one of the best teams in the state! DON'T HOLD BACK!
Thank you for an absolutely incredible season. I feel so blessed to have worked with such talented student-athletes, wonderful coaches, and supportive parents. I can't wait to see everyone at the banquet on Monday, Nov. 30th. If you have RSVP'd please do so at the link below:

Hello!
First, I want to say GREAT JOB to everyone that swam at the district meet and the last chance invitational yesterday. The last couple of weeks are my favorite time of the season because I see so many of you reaching your goals after putting in a lot of hard work throughout the season with having such wonderful attitudes. I look forward to watching those that qualified for states this next weekend represent Pinnacle in the best possible way, as a great athlete and a person of character!

Boosters has organized a way for state swimmers to order a Jimmy John's lunch on Friday. It will be delivered at 11:00 am (when you get out of class). We will leave school at 11:30 am so that you have time to eat that lunch. You are welcome to brown bag if you wish (but make sure it is healthy and substantial!) ONLY STATE swimmers are welcome to order. PLEASE  DO NOT ORDER DRINKS! Lastly, be sure to put YOUR NAME on the order where it says "who wants it?". Here is the link where you can order:

Weekly Update - 25 October 2015

Good morning Pinnacle swim & dive!

I hope everyone is enjoying their weekend :) This is one of my last updates....this week is our last week of mandatory practices and next week is our last week of practice all together for the state qualifiers. This has been a phenomenal season so far and the coaches and I are so glad we have been able to a part of it with you. We have seen so many of you grow as an athlete and as a person of character, and on that note, I will be sharing our character quality of the week in a separate email :)

Notes for the week:

- Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday: Practices are done at 6:00 pm

- Wednesday is our last mandatory practice as a team. We will be voting for captains on this day, so it's very important that you be there! Captains will be announced at the banquet.

- Thursday, we will be done with practice at 5:45 pm so we can head over to the The Monheit household for our Team Pasta Party!
HELP!!  We are in need of at least 7 more PASTA DISHES and 6 SALADS to feed ALL the athletes for this night!
Please sign up on the attached site :  http://www.signupgenius.com/go/5080e44a9ae2bab9-pasta

- Friday is our District Meet at Moon Valley Country Club. Everyone is attending! Wear your polos!! Please bring your lunch to school and eat there. When the lunch bell rings to go to 6th period, you will go to DIRECTLY to our meeting spot instead. The bus will be leaving at 12:15 pm. I have attached the psych sheet for the meet to this email, as well as a word document that has a list of the athletes that will be swimming (easier to find your name). If your name is not on the list, you do not need to bring your swimming gear, however, you do need to wear your polos and be ready to cheer on your teammates!

- Saturday (Halloween) is the Last Chance Invitational at Brophy's pool: 4701 N. Central Ave. Phx, AZ 85012.  I submitted entries yesterday. Attached is another list of the names of swimmers that are entered in this meet and what they will be doing. Meet warm up starts at 12:00 pm. Meet starts at 1:30 pm. It will be about a two and a half hour meet. Since there are fewer athletes attending this meet, you will be responsible for bringing your own snacks, water, and chair. We will provide the pop-up tarps!

Other notes:
-REMEMBER to RSVP for the Banquet on November 30th
( Please put athlete name and how many guests attending )

Weekly Update - 18 October 2015

Good afternoon!
This last week was a great week of training! The coaches and I are very proud of how hard you have been working and excited to see the results in the last couple of meets. Wednesday's practice was a fun "mini-meet" and it was nice to see some of you swim events you don't usually get to do!
Our character quality of the week is Attitude! Your attitude determines everything. We only have TWO weeks left of the season (three for those of you attending the state championships)...make the most of it! Bring your BEST effort to every practice and the last couple of meet. Don't complain about sets, what you are swimming in a meet, or all the homework you have to do in one night. Be grateful that you can do all of those things. There are many people your age that don't even know how to swim or have the opportunity to attend one of the top public schools in the state but you do! Have a positive and willing heart this week!
"Nothing gives one person so much advantage over another as to remain cool and unruffled under all circumstances." - Thomas Jefferson

Notes for the week:
- Last dual meet of the season is on Tuesday 10/20 @ Chaparral (Cactus Park). Everyone will be swimming/diving. Meet starts at 4:00 pm. Athletes will meet at our usual spot near the gym right after school. Please wear your POLOS to school! This is going to be a very competitive and FUN meet...tell your friends and family to come and support us :)  Afterward, you can go get some dinner together! (see next bullet)
- Kneader' fundraiser: After our meet on Tuesday, go get breakfast for dinner at Kneaders! All you can eat french toast for $5.95! All french toast proceeds will go back to PHS swim & dive!
- Mandatory practice will be on Wednesday this week, 10/21
- District Dive Meet is this Wednesday!! Good luck to our divers!

Other Reminders:

- Don't forget to sign up for our team pasta party! We need some more pasta for our PASTA party! :) It is next Thursday, 10/29
http://www.signupgenius.com/go/5080e44a9ae2bab9-pasta
- JUNIORS: We only have two mandatory practices left of the season and it is tradition to do captain speeches at the last one...which is next week! I am letting you know now so that you have time to prepare something, if you would like. In your speech, I recommend including what it means to be a leader and how you plan to lead your team next season. Please keep your speeches to a couple minutes in length since there are so many of you! The rest of the team will vote afterward and we will announce the captains at the team banquet! Please note that if you do not want to be a captain, it is not a requirement that you say a speech!
- DISTRICT swim meet is on Friday, 10/30 at Moon Valley Country Club. Everyone will be attending event though they may not be swimming. We will be leaving school right after lunch (excused from 6th and 7th).
- IMPORTANT: LAST CHANCE INVITE is Oct. 31st. Warm is at 12:00 pm and meet starts at 1:30 pm. This is still an invitational and I can only take a selected amount per each invite but I need to know if any of you WILL NOT be able to attend this meet. Please reply to this email by Wednesday to let me know! Thank you!!
Have a great rest of your Sunday!
Coach Paige

Sunday, October 11, 2015

Good afternoon!

I wanted to start by saying a HUGE thank you to Jacki Tatman, Suzanne Allen, Christi Rosin, Kristen Bolar who helped make our senior meet happen! It was such a special evening for everyone, especially our seniors. Also, thank you to all the parent timers! Lastly, another huge thank you to Ken and Sharon Apel who officiated/scored our senior meet (and our other home meets!). Meets could not happen without all our parent help and we greatly appreciate it!

Meet results: our ladies came away with a win and our men fell short by just a few points! We have one more dual meet left against one of our best competitors, Chaparral. We have a week of rest (no meets) to gear up for it!

Our character quality of the week is Believe; to have a firm conviction about something, accept as true. Having this type of character allows you to be sure of what you hope for and certain of things you cannot see. If we didn't have belief or faith, if we always kept fear of the unknown in our hearts, we wouldn't have our greatest Olympians, our bravest soldiers, our most intelligent surgeons, etc. Being the best athlete or the smartest student does not make you a great individual, it is the process of how you get there, which includes believing in yourself AND showing others how to do the same. Ibelieve that you are capable of having all the great character qualities we have discussed so far and that is why I am so proud to be a Pioneer and a part of this team.

"The ultimate measure of someone is not where they stand in moments of comfort and convenience but where they stand at times of challenge and controversy." - MLK, Jr.

Notes for this week:
- NO meet this week. Last dual meet is NEXT Tuesday, October 20th at Cactus Park.
- Practice times are normal. Wednesday is a mandatory practice!

Other reminders:
- District DIVE Meet- Oct. 28th @ PV pool. This date may change...stay tuned.
- Annual Team Pasta Party is Thursday Oct. 29th right after practice. Please sign up to bring an item in the link below:
http://www.signupgenius.com/go/5080e44a9ae2bab9-pasta
- District SWIM Meet is Friday Oct. 30th @ Moon Valley Country Club. Not everyone will be competing, but all athletes will be attending. We will be leaving right after lunch, so they will be excused from their 6th and 7th period classes.
- Last Chance SWIM Invite is on Oct. 31st @ Brophy. A selected team will be attending.
Have a great rest of your Sunday!

Sunday, October 4, 2015

Good morning!
This was a great week for Pinnacle swim and dive. Last Tuesday was a very successful dual meet against Horizon, where the coaches and I witnessed terrific racing. Yesterday's invite at Brophy was even better! The Women came in 2nd behind Chaparral and the Men came in 9th overall. I have the final results attached to this email. We had several swimmers better their times from two weeks ago and some that received automatic qualifying times for state. The coaches are very proud of your hard work over the last month (which includes  A LOT of racing every week). We are looking forward to gearing up for our District Meet at the end of the month that will be another opportunity to qualify for state. We have our senior meet on Wednesday and then we will be able to rest for a couple weeks (no meet until Oct. 20th).
The character quality of the week is Discern. This is a big word, some of you may not have ever heard of or used! To discern means to be able to know and understand why things happen to you and to others; to be insightful. It is recognizing the "how" and "why" in situations. Why did they get their best time? How did they get an A on the test? Why are they so kind? When you ask "how" and "why", you understand the deeper meaning of being a great character (i.e. making good decisions, overcoming pain, being noble, trusting, doing hard work, being obedient, and loving one another, etc...). Be aware of the good and the right you do in your life and why it is the good and the right and then keep acting on it!
"You must first understand something or someone before you can commit to it or them. Little or no understanding means shallow commitment and little cost." - Wade Salem

Notes for this week:
-Tuesday: Mandatory practice
- Wednesday, Oct. 7th: Senior Meet! We will be celebrating our seniors with a pizza party after the meet. The cost is $5.00. Please bring your money to practice and give it to Casey Allen by TUESDAY!  Parents are welcome to eat with their swimmers for an additional $5.00.  Senior recognition will begin at 3:45 pm.
If you take your athlete home from dual meets, please plan on picking them up @  6:30 pm due to pizza party. The bus will leave @ 6:30 to head back to school.
- Thursday: Practice will be from 4:45-5:45 pm due to the homecoming football game that night. I understand that many of you will be getting ready for the game, however, the coaches still expect you to be there. We only have a few more weeks left in the season and it's very important you attend all the practices.

Monday, September 28, 2015

Good afternoon,

I hope everyone has enjoyed their well-deserved 5 day weekend! I can't believe it's almost over. We had a great meet against Arcadia on Thursday! The girls won 94-89 and the boys only lost by 2 points (86-84)! There was some great racing even though many of you are physically exhausted, but that's what makes you stronger mentally. We have a quick turn around with another meet on Tuesday, so keep that mental toughness; your bodies can do it, be sure your mind knows it can too!

This week's character quality is LOVE. Pinnacle swim & dive has always been about family. Families love and care for one another. Families make each other feel like they belong, that they are not alone. They are devoted and committed to making the family a better unit by meeting others needs first before their own. Most importantly they are compassionate and not self-seeking, they do what's best for the family/team. That's why I am proud to be a Pioneer. This week, focus on loving one another by being caring, devoted, and compassionate toward your teammates!

"Love is patient. It is kind. It does not envy, does not boast, it is not proud. It is not rude, it is not self-seeking, it is not easily angered, it keeps no records of wrong. It always protects, always trusts, always hopes, always perseveres. Love never fails."

Notes for this week:

- HOME Meet on Tuesday against Horizon. I mentioned earlier that this will be a double dual meet, in which there will be two meets running at the same time. I will explain more in detail before warm-ups. Please note below that our Kneaders fundraiser was changed to October 20th due to the NHS induction the same night. Parents: We will need help with timing again!! I am unsure of how many timers PV will be providing. Please be there 10-15 minutes before the meet starts at 4 pm so that we can assure the meet will start on time! Thank you in advance!
Athletes: Please wear your team t-shirts (true grit) all day on Tuesday! Meet in the usual spot after school.

- Mandatory practice will still be on Wednesday!

PV has another meet this week on Thursday, so we will have to practice later than usual. We will practice from 6:00 - 7:30 pm. Please bring shoes for dryland...we will do dryland before getting in the water.

- Brophy/Xavier Swim Invite is this Saturday at Brophy (on campus). Please be at school by 6:30 am. Bring a folding chair, snack, water, sunscreen, etc.
The following athletes will be attending: Kennedy, Ally, Gabby, Zoe R, Grace R, Jess W, Jesse A, Lexi, Hayley, Emily F, Mickaela, Rachel R, Paris, Kelsie, Kaitlyn, Elisa, Isabel, Casey, Nicole, Faith Steele, Sam B, Ryan N, Blake, Danny T, Jack, Max, Hunter, Ryan K, Aaron, James, Matthew, Danny T, Ryan C, Sam F

Update 9/20/2015

Good evening!

Congratulations to all those who participated in the Wolves invitational yesterday! There were many best times and most importantly, there was fantastic effort in our racing. The official results have not been posted online yet, but if you download the app "Meet Mobile" you can find all the team/individual results. Our girls team placed 2nd overall, behind Desert Vista. Our boys team came in 10th overall, which was a four spot improvement from last year! If scores were combined, Pinnacle swim and dive would have come in 3rd place. Great job! I am looking forward to our next invitational on October 2nd (diving) and 3rd (swimming) at Brophy.

Notes for this week:

Regular practice times on Monday-Wednesday, 4:45 pm - 6:30 pm.
Bring dryland shoes on Tuesday.
Wednesday is a mandatory practice for everyone.

AWAY MEET ON THURSDAY! It will be against Arcadia at El Dorado Pool (Address: 2301 N Miller Rd, Scottsdale, AZ 85257) Everyone will be attending.
Since there is no school on Thursday, please plan to be dropped off at school NO LATER than 2:20 pm so that we can leave on time. The bus will take us back to school. Wear your POLOS! This is going to be a very competitive meet! Yesterday, our girls team only beat them by 23 points yesterday and our boys only beat them by 10 points.
No practice Friday!

Next Tuesday, 9/29, we have another home meet against Horizon (this was changed from the original schedule). It will be a double dual meet, which means we will run 2 heats of each event (1 for each meet). I will talk to the PV coach about splitting the need for timers, since we are both "hosting." I was informed that this is also the NHS induction night. Please let me know if you will be attending that.

Update from Boosters:

BRAVO!!!! We had a great response to the Krispy Kreme Fundraiser. Due to your commitment we are able to purchase the 3/4 zip up jackets for the athletes. The coaches and captains will be collecting sizes over the next few weeks. (Please check with your athletes to see if monies or cards have been returned to Mrs. LaPorte. We have a few families that have not turned them in. Also, we have about 25 extra cards if anyone is willing to sell).

See you at the pool!

Character Quality of the Week

Webster's definition of Hardworking is, "using a lot of time and energy to do work".

That is a very simple definition for such a meaningful word. I believe it is one of the most important qualities that we will discuss. Hardwork is more than just earning your way to successes and victories; it's the journey of getting there, no matter how long it takes. Laziness and complacency will not help you achieve your goals. What you put in, is what you will get out.

As a distance swimmer, I remember finishing an 8,000 yd workout feeling absolutely exhausted afterward yet so euphoric. I gained more than just physical endurance and strength…I gained character. Those types of workouts gave me the confidence to complete the 1000 yd freestyle, 200 yd fly and 500 yd freestyle in a two hour time frame during my college dual meets. In return, I contributed points to our team score. Even if I didn't get the personal best time that I wanted (long term goal), I was helping put my team in a position to win the meet (short term goal).

Whatever your task is, big or small, put your whole heart and soul into it. I promise you will be rewarded. Sometimes it may not be in the way you want it to be, but it will strengthen your character and give you hope.

"Ability will get you there, but character will keep you there."

Weekly Update - September 13, 2015

There is A LOT of important information in this week's update so I am going to get straight to business and send out another email later about the character quality of the week :)

1) 1st HOME MEET is this Thursday, 9/17, 4:00 pm start time.
This will be a TRI meet against Scottsdale Christian Academy and Coronado, which means each team will get 2 lanes in each scoring heat. Since our team is so large, and I want everyone a chance to race, I will be providing extra exhibition heats of most events (more than usual).

WE NEED PARENT HELP! ( send email to klaporte@pvlearners.net if able to help ) - 12 TIMERS (so far...Jamie Roberson, Kristen Bolar, Kelly Neill, Sara Elich, Laura Fitzgerald, Ken Reinstein, Marie Hughes, Janiece Oebker, Jim Oebker) - HEAD TIMER - RUNNER ( picks up score cards at each lane, at end of each event ) - 1-2 parents for set up and take down - Need 2-3 sports pop-up tarps to borrow for meet

**IMPORTANT** practice schedule changes:
There are 3 home meets at the pool this week between all three of the schools that share it. This means that we will have move our practice time to a later time slot on Tuesday and Wednesday. We will be sharing the pool with another team from 6:15pm-8:00pm, just for those two days! Because of our size team, we may not be able to share the pool with other team on Wednesday and get an effective workout in...so, I am going to encourage the club swimmers to practice with their team on Wednesday afternoon. HOWEVER, there will be a MANDATORY team meeting at the start of our practice around 6:15 pm to discuss the upcoming meets.

2) WOLVES INVITATIONAL For the divers, it is Wednesday 9/16 at Chandler High School For the swimmers, it is Saturday 9/17 at Chandler High School. We will be leaving school at 6:15 AM! Chandler HS: 350 N. Arizona Ave. Chandler, AZ
There are three PDFs attached to this email. The 'Wolves entry report by team' is a list of all athletes attending. Pinnacle is on page 57-58. You can check this list to see if you are going and what events you will be swimming. The other two documents are a psych sheet (where you are seeded based on times) and a timeline for the day. We will be done around 1:30 pm. For those of you going: please bring a folding chair, plenty of snacks and drinks, towels, extra goggles (just in case), and lots of Pioneer pride!

3) FUNDRAISING!!
** Krispy Kreme $$$ is due this WEDNESDAY, 9/16** We need all cards sold to meet budget ! ( Check with employers, churches, clubs, grandparents, etc... ) Money needs to be returned to Mrs. LaPorte in the College Center

4) SAVE THE DATE: Tuesday, 9/29 from 5-8 pm (this will be after our meet against Horizon which has been changed to a home meet!)

TEAM FUNDRAISING DINNER AT KNEADERS ( Hayden & Northsight ) All you can eat cinnamon french toast $5.59 All of it returns to PHS swim & dive! Invite your friends and family! Hope you are having another great 3 day weekend!

Weekly Update - 7 September 2015

Happy Labor Day!

I hope everyone enjoys their day off...we have lots coming up in the month of September :)

The coaches and I are so proud of how noble everyone was at Thursday's meet. We were very impressed at how you honored the opposing team through great sportsmanship, as well as saying thank you to the bus driver and your coaches. I was personally ecstatic about all of the personal bests! When you stay focused in your training, you can do outstanding things!

This week's character quality is Trust. Trust is something that is not earned immediately, it takes time to become worthy. But when trust is established (in a relationship, a team, a classroom), it brings great harmony to that group of people. Most importantly, make sure you are trusting yourself. During practice, trust your body that it can endure more pain that you could ever imagine and that your body knows that correct technique (after practicing it over and over again). On a meet day, trust that your training has put you in a position to excel and reach new limits. lastly, trust your teammates and your coaches that they will be by your side every step of the way! This week we have a meet against two of the best teams in the state, Brophy and Xavier. For the swimmers, I will be organizing the line up (a little differently than last week) to give us the best opportunity of winning, which means not everyone will be able to swim. I want to remind you that this is a very competitive team and our goal is to put ourselves in a position that will give the best results. Having said that, this is a learning experience and in order for new comers to grow, they need to be competing. At meets against smaller schools, such as last week, most swimmers will be swimming at least one individual event. No matter what the line up looks like, your coaches expect everyone to be at each meet supporting one another and cheering the team on!

We will ALL meet in the same location (E building) after school for the buses to pick us up at 2:30 pm. On Thursday, wear your new navy blue t-shirts (not polo) to school/meet (If you have not received it yet, I will pass them out at practice on Tuesday).

Location: Brophy College Prep...4701 N Central Ave, Phoenix, AZ 85012

Important Upcoming Dates:
September 14th: No school, NO practice
September 16th: Krispy Kreme monies are due to Mrs. LaPorte in the college & career center. You can turn them in sooner than that.
Also, the diver will be competing at the Wolves invitational!
September 19th: Wolves Swimming Invitational, more details to come. This will be a selected group
September 23rd-25th: No school...we WILL have practice on Wednesday the 23rd because we have an away meet on Thursday the 24th!!

Go Pioneers!!!

Friday, September 4, 2015

Wow! What a FANTASTIC first meet last night against Sandra Day O'Connor (still waiting on final scores). The coaches and I saw some great racing against our opponent and each other! We are so proud of you and many have come so far in just a few short weeks. We still have the whole season ahead of us!

My favorite part of the whole meet was seeing the camaraderie and the way you cheered for your teammates; you guys did a great job of having Pioneer spirit! On that note, please make sure you that you are keeping that spirit alive until the very end...the very last 400 fr relay. That means waiting to change and waiting to go home with a parent until the meet is over. We are a team! Go Pioneers!

TONIGHT: We will be done with practice around 6 so that you can attend the team BBQ at Grace's house!
Address: 5453 E. Danbury Rd. Scottsdale, AZ 85254 (it's about 5 min from the pool)

MONDAY: NO PRACTICE!

See you later!

Weekly Update 8/23/2015

Hello!

Last week was a great week of hard work, camaraderie, and decisiveness. The coaches and I even saw some athletes keeping each other accountable for making the right choices. THAT is what makes Pinnacle swim & dive one of the best teams in the state. This week's character quality (CQ) is Overcome. It is how we respond in tough times. I think we have all had moments where we want to give up or "throw in the towel", but when we learn to overcome those challenges we build perseverance, character and hope. We begin to understand how rewarding the successes are because were able to finish strong, be tenacious, and have grit...true grit!
This week, if you face adversity, don't give up. Have the strength to overcome!

"Success is to be measured not so much by the position that one has reached in life as by the obstacles which one has overcome while trying to succeed." - Booker T Washington

Parent Volunteers for Swim and Dive and Weekly Update 8/16/2015

Hi Parents!

I have put together a google doc that contains descriptions of each of the volunteer positions we need help with this season.

Please sign up below each one before Wednesday. In case you cannot access google docs, I have attached the word file for you to view. I will print them off on Wednesday afternoon before the parent meeting so you can hand sign them.

1) Senior Recognition.
This happens on the last home dual meet of the season. We need a group of parents to help make this night special for them!

2) Pot Luck Pasta Party.
Date is TBD but this event is one of the athletes favorite parts of the season!

3) Banquet.
We need a parent volunteer to head the banquet committee. I can provide information on past banquets to help make the process smoother. But we will need many parent volunteers to help make this night possible!

4) Lastly, we have TWO home dual meets in which we will need help with timing and set up/clean up.

Your help throughout the season is very much appreciated! It allows for the athletes to make memories and have you be an integral part of their activities!

Good evening!

I hope everyone had a great weekend. The coaches were extremely impressed on how the first week of practice went. We loved seeing the hard work, camaraderie, and high energy! On Wednesday, we talked about not only becoming a better athlete but developing character qualities to be a better son/daughter, sibling, student, teammate, and friend. DON'T HOLD BACK! This week we will be focusing on being Decisive. Be smart! Making the right choices is important in your academics, athletics and relationships. Wisdom leads to good decision making. You gain wisdom from your parents, teachers, and coaches; be mindful of what they have to share. They believe in you and want to see you succeed. Think about those things and integrate them into your daily lives!

Notes for this week:

PARENT/ATHLETE meeting this Wednesday after practice (6:30 pm).
Please bring check book and water/snack.
If your last name starts with A-L: a case of water for dual meets
If your last name starts with M-Z: a box of snacks for dual meets, preferably the Costco size (i.e. nature valley bars, fruit snacks, pretzels, granola bars, etc.)

Please DO NOT bring these items to another practice or to my room. They will be going to the equipment room in the E building.

Make sure you are bringing plenty of water/gatorade to practice to stay hydrated!!

UPCOMING SAVE THE DATES:

August 29th: t-shirt party
September 2nd: Picture Day
September 3rd: 1st dual meet!

We will be done with practice early, around 6:00 pm.

3. MANDATORY PARENT/ATHLETE MEETING is this Wednesday, August 19th right after practice (6:30 pm).
Please bring a check book and your designated snack or water.

Welcome Back!

Happy first day of school! Looking forward to hearing all about it!
A couple of notes before this afternoon:
- Please turn in your athletics packets AT SCHOOL to Nancy Katz in the E building (her office is on the east side, next to the weight room and small gym). Again, you cannot get in the water unless these are turned in. Thank you!
- There is no transportation (bus) to and from practice. Everyone arrives to the pool at 4:45 on their own. Carpools are great!
- This afternoon, please bring your practice suit, goggles, cap, and A WATER BOTTLE
Team suits: This year we are not doing a "suit fitting" day. I have a "fit kit" provided by East Valley Sports will all suit sizes. This week, the coaches and I will be asking all athletes to try them on and provide us your size. I will be submitting the suit order by the end of the weekend!
- Reminder: the parent/athlete meeting is next Wednesday, August 19th, after practice (6:30 pm) at the pool

For club athletes: I would like as many of you to be at today's practice as possible...I will have two special introductions :) Mandatory practices are Wednesdays.
See you soon!

IMPORTANT swim/dive reminders!

Hello!
Just wanted to send a reminder that these three things need to be done BEFORE Monday afternoon:

1) Athletic paper MUST be cleared through Nancy Katz before you attend practice or else you WILL NOT be able to participate. Nancy's office is in the E building on the east side (by the weight room). Go before school, at lunch, or after school to drop it off. I will be given an official list on Monday afternoon before practice.
2) Remember to sign up for Remind Me 101! Last year there was a monsoon on the first day of practice and it was cancelled. This will be the best way for me to immediately contact all athletes/parents if it were to happen again. I attached instructions to sign up.
3) Parents, please make sure you have a gmail account so that I can share certain documents with you (i.e. meet sign up sheets, banquet sign up, fundraising, senior night, pasta party, etc.). Email me with your gmail address and I will do a trial run sometime next week.

Looking forward to seeing everyone on Monday!!
Practice time: 4:45pm - 6:30 pm, location: PV Pool.

Swim/Dive Update 22 July 2015

Hello!
I hope everyone has been enjoying last minute summer vacations and had some time to do a little relaxing before we all start school in just a few weeks. I have a few notes:

  • Thank you to all of you that showed up to dryland the last three weeks. It was awesome to start the season off with hard work and dedication! For the many of you that were not able to make it, I hope that you have been staying conditioned and are ready for training on August 10th! It's going to be a GREAT season!
  • I attached a "new" tentative meet schedule. All athletes will be attending the dual meets (weekdays) but the invites (weekends) will be a selected team based on academic performance, meet performance, and attendance. These are the state qualifying meets. **Please note that some of the dual meets are subject to change because of scheduling conflicts (they are noted on the calendar) . The AIA went through a new process of creating the master schedule this year and there are a few things that need some tweaking.
  • Our mandatory parent/athlete meeting will be WEDNESDAY, AUGUST 19TH at the pool, right after our practice (around 6:30 pm). It will only take about 20-30 minutes to review expectations, fees, dates, etc. If you are new to the team, the coaches and I would be happy to stay a little longer and talk more details. I will go over fees closer to the start of the season but keep in mind that ALL (booster & AIA) will be due by August 28th.
What to bring to the meeting:
If your last name starts with A-L:
a case of water for dual meets
If your last name starts with M-Z:
a box of snacks for dual meets, preferably the costco size (i.e. nature valley bars, fruit snacks, pretzels, granola bars, etc.)

Lastly, I would like to congratulate the following swimmers that received All America standings in their events from last season. All-America rankings are the top 100 performances in every event across the country, from the 2014-2015 high school season.
Ally Yancy - 100 breast - 44th
Aaron Apel - 500 free - 42nd
Sam Fazio - 50 free - 47th
Sam Fazio, Ally Yancy, Zoe Rosin, Julie Gibson - 200 medley relay - 37th
Julie Gibson, Hayley Hill, Sam Fazio, Victoria Toris - 400 free relay - 30th

The coaches and I are really looking forward to this season and excited to see all of you continue to become better athletes and students! We can't wait for the Pioneer Swim/Dive family to be back together again!

July Update

Hello!!

I hope each of you have been having a most wonderful summer.  I can't believe it's already July! My family and I went to Indiana to be a part of my sister's wedding…I officially have a brother! I bought my first home and have been in the process of moving in. Lastly, a wonderful man named Erin asked me to marry him about a month ago and we will be getting married at the end of the year!

The coaches and I will be running dryland, at Pinnacle, for a few weeks (Monday - Thursday 4:00-5:00) to start getting you back in shape. I may extend the time slot next week (10-15 minutes). Please meet inside the E building (through the doors closest to student parking lot).

I have a TENTATIVE dual meet/invite schedule that I have on the attached calendar. The AIA will be sending out a final dual meet schedule sometime this summer. I wanted to share these dates with you so that you have a little bit of a heads up. I will have a final one at the parent/athlete meeting during the first week of school. I will also review expectations, fees (tax credit option), parent volunteers, and important dates.

For those of you that are new, there will be TWO fees. One will be $200 to AIA that can be paid online or in the school bookstore AFTER I turn in an official roster. The second will be our team booster fee (TBD) which will include athletes team suits, caps, t-shirts, meet entry fees and banquet fees.  You must provide your own practice suit, goggles, and caps.

Please make sure you have completed the athletic packets for clearance and that you have ALL signatures. These will be turned in at walk-thru or the first day of practice. If you do not have them completed, you cannot get in the water. If you are an incoming freshman, be sure to take the concussion quiz as well and print out the certificate. http://www.pvschools.net/Page/3184

Lastly, instead of having multiple forms to fill out and collect throughout the season, I would like to start using google drive and "share" certain documents (sign up sheets, etc.). Every athlete has a pvlearners account and has access to google drive, but if there is any parent that does not have a gmail account, I would recommend getting one and letting me know the address so I can add it to my list!
Thank you and see you soon!

Hello again!
In my email a few weeks ago, I believe I attached last years physical packet...the PVUSD website has the new 2015-2016 packet posted (see links). Also, along with your physical packet, please don't forget to fill out the following:
- Release form for an away contest
- Student release form practice (for those athletes that drive themselves to practice)
- Pre-season, release of liability form (for those that will be doing dryland this summer, hopefully everyone!)
The athletic office is really hoping a majority of physical paperwork will be done before school ends this year so that it will make for a smooth process of being cleared in the fall.

Just a reminder...

Summer dryland schedule:
The coaches and I will be running a weights/dryland workout for several weeks in July to start getting back in shape and to enjoy time with teammates! This will be Monday-Thursday at Pinnacle in the weight room (E building). The dates and times for this are:
7/6-7/9 4-5:30 pm
7/13-7/16 4-5:30 pm
7/20-7/23 4-5:30 pm

Fall practice time:
Swim: 4:45-6:30 pm
PVUSD Dive: 3:30-5:00 pm
Both located @ PV pool (40th st and Union Hills)
Meet schedule TBD

A Spring Swim/Dive Update!

Hello!
Just writing a quick spring update to inform you of a few things for the upcoming fall season! Current seniors, I do have a brief note for you...see below! I have not yet removed the senior athletes/parents from the email list, so please send me a quick email me back so I know which emails to remove. Also, I have added incoming freshman athletes/parents who attended the 8th grade night in January! The coaches, captains, and your future teammates are very excited to have you become a part of our swim/dive family!
FOR CURRENT SENIORS: the spring ceremonial signing day is May 8th in the Big Gym at 11:40 (start of lunch). If you have committed to swim/dive in college (since December) please let me know so I can add you to the list! If you were unable to attend the Fall ceremony, we would love to honor you at this one! Parents, plan on attending and being there around 11:30. Send me an email to let me know you will be joining this go around.
I had a coaches meeting last Thursday and the athletic director has requested that all RETURNING athletes (future sophomores, juniors, seniors) to be cleared by the end of THIS school year. This is to avoid much of the chaos that can often occur within the first few weeks of August in the athletic office. Here is the link to the PVUSD athletic site that includes the files:

http://www.pvschools.net/Page/3184

Most of you know this process by know but if you have questions please feel free to email me.

Summer schedule: The coaches and I will be running a weights/dryland workout for several weeks in July to start getting back in shape and to enjoy time with teammates! This will be Monday-Thursday at Pinnacle in the weight room (E building). The dates and times for this are:
7/6-7/9 4-5:30 pm
7/13-7/16 4-5:30 pm
7/20-7/23 4-5:30 pm

Fall practice time: Many of you have been inquiring about which practice time slot we will have this fall...it is 4:45-6:30 pm! No more late night dinners! I will not know the meet schedule until the end of the summer/beginning of the season.
We had such a phenomenal finish to the end of last season, so I am really looking forward to our upcoming season! On that note...if you are currently not in "swim shape", it would behoove (word of the day!) you to start doing so now. I would be happy to get you connected with swim teams (club or rec) to join this summer. Have a great rest of your week!

Coach Paige

Clarification on Fall practice times: The SWIM practice time slot is 4:45-6:30 pm. All PVUSD divers practice together at a designated time slot around that time (since there are limited dive coaches and athletes). I will find out the exact time. Please contact the head dive coach for PVUSD, Andrew Caraway, for more specific questions regarding dive. His email is 80andrew80@gmail.com.

For those of you that are new, swimmers and diver will compete together and all paperwork to fill out before the season is the same for both! The summer schedule applies to both swimmers and divers :)
