STATE DIVER and STATE UPDATE

Congratulations to Kendall Valsvik on qualifying for the Diving State Championships!!  Our divers had a great season, keep up the hard work in the off season and we’ll make another run at State next year.
Tomorrow the Pinnacle Administration has asked us to have the athletes excused at 9:12 am instead of 9:30 am as planned.  It is a advisement day so all classes are shortened.  Please meet outside of Marty’s office and try to keep the noise down to a dull roar while we wait for our bus.  Prior to getting on the bus I will be handing out badges for all athletes that must be worn at all times at the meet.  Bring your badge with you to the blocks or the diving boards and leave it with whatever clothes you bring up there with you.  DO NOT LOSE YOUR BADGE!  They will ask you to leave the deck and you may not be able to get to you event on time.  Please bring warm clothes to help stay warm when not competing.  There will be a cooler of water, please stay hydrated.  The meet, once under way, will take around 3-4 hours.  Please make sure you have something to snack on during that time.  Please leave all jewelry at home, we do not want to have to bust out the tool kit to help take something off at the state meet.  Also please take your time shaving tonight.
Let’s be ready to finish out our season with some great performances!

THANKS AGAIN THOMPSONS!
This is a potluck and will require the participation of everyone.  See below to determine what you need to bring.  We will start on time, so please do not be late.  Last year we had some issues with kids not showing on time.  We are cancelling practice this night so on time arrival won’t be an issue.  Thank you for your cooperation regarding this issue.

                A thru D                                                                               Pasta dish

***We will have around 60 people so be sure to bring enough***
We are asking that EVERYONE help in the clean up from the evening.  The Thompsons are graciously offering up their home, so we need to be respectful and leave it in the condition we find it in.
CALLING ALL JUNIORS!!!!
If you are a junior and know you will be returning to the Swim & Dive Team next year, you may want to consider placing yourself in the running for CAPTAINS.  Coach Mike is changing the way we have traditionally done this in the past.  He will be reading essays you write with no names on them to determine who will be taking on the roles of Captain next year.  He alone will make the decisions.  If you are interested, please write an essay describing the following:
1.       Why is swim important to you?
2.       How has high school swim impacted you in the last 3 years?
3.       What leadership qualities do you possess?
4.       If you are chosen as a captain, how will you help to make next year a success?
5.       What ideas do you have for next year?
6.       If there is anything else you would like to add to this list of questions, please do so.
DEADLINE:  Please turn in your essays to Wendy Quinonez wendyq@q.com  by the Pasta Party via email.
***VERY IMPORTANT***  Captain is not a title.  Captain is a position of leadership, responsibility and influence.  If you feel you are not up to taking on the responsibility of leadership, carefully consider whether this is right for you or not.  Coach Mike is only considering those of you who are ready to step up to the job.  You will begin your leadership role as soon as the current season ends.  You will be critical in shaping the next season.

BOOTS & HEELS
Hi, everyone, tomorrow will be the last mandatory practice before the donations for the Boots and Heels basket need to be turned in to the committee.  I will plan on being on deck tomorrow before and after practice to accept any donations.  Thank you to all of you who have donated so far.  We have received some great donations.  If you would still like to participate, we would appreciate any contribution.  As little as $5.00 per swimmer adds up when combined.  If you miss this opportunity, contributions can be given to my daughter, Megan, at the meet on Wednesday otherwise, you can contact me to arrange a drop-off.  Have a great day, Amy Janetsky
FUNDRAISING:
CAR WASH
To everyone who participated,  a HUGE THANK YOU!  To those of you who put in the time for the entire day, SUPER HUGE THANK YOU!  Thank you to Debbie Beaman, Stephen Quinonez, Tatum Quinonez and Ken Reinstein for all of your hard work-ing, top of the SUV reach-ing, Beverly Hillbilly Packing the Car-ing, waving the signs and scream-ing and supporting the team like crazy!  We all owe them a HUGE thanks for their efforts!  We had a successful day and so far have made $510.65!!!  If anyone has any presold ticket money outstanding, please bring it to the Mandatory practice on Tuesday.
All of the baked goods were incredible!  There are many creative people out there!
We were surprised to find out many of the kids didn’t know how to wash cars.  Well, parents… now they do!!    They had a ton of fun and it all shows in the pictures Kenzie uploaded to FB yesterday.  Let’s just say there was a lot of soap and water being flung around.   I’m sure some pics will make the cut for the slide show at the end of season banquet.
Items left at the car wash:
Various Towels – they will be washed and ready to be claimed on Tues. at practice.
1 pr. Blue Old Navy flip flops
TASTI D LITE
We made $40.50 which wasn’t bad for a last minute setup.  The folks at TDL were extremely gracious and made this experience very simple and cooperative.  Thank you to TDL and everyone who attended.  We will certainly do this one again in the future.
Thank you!

UPDATE FROM WENDY

TODAY’S MEET

Well it was a turn of events, but we all made the best of it and it was great that everyone had the chance to swim today.  I especially enjoyed Chad Decker’s back stroke while doing breast stroke kick.  Very nice!  This team is definitely not devoid of humor!  Pierre – you lead a mean cheer by the way!   Great team spirit and togetherness.  Thank you for showing what a great team you are!

SENIOR RECOGNITION

The Senior Recognition ceremony went beautifully and was so well organized!  Thank you to Peggy Ryan and Jodi Goll for your efforts and anyone else who helped with this endeavor.  The towels and signs were great and the kids’ bios were a lot of fun to hear about.  Thank you to Siera and Lucy for emceeing the event.  We all appreciated the opportunity to honor our seniors this year.  We wish you all the best of luck in your futures.  Make the most of it because life moves way too fast!  Before you know it, you will be attending your Senior’s recognition nights.  It’s hard to believe for you, but the parents know exactly what I mean.  Congratulations to you all!

PIZZA PARTY RESULTS

We netted $75.94 from the pizza party.  Not bad!  Thank you everyone for your participation and support of your team!

TASTI D LITE RESULTS

TBD – They were very appreciative of our support of them and we are of their support of us.   I think they will be a great relationship for the future.  Thank you again for your support.

PHS SWIM & DIVE WINDOW DECALS

I have 5 left.  First come first served if you would like them.

CAR WASH

Thank you to the extra people who have signed up.  We are looking good for Saturday.  Please remember to bring a Halloween themed baked good to the car wash for the bake sale portion.  If you aren’t participating in the car wash, please bring your baked good to practice on Friday and I will pick it up there.  If you are at neither, please bring your baked good to the office at school Friday morning and I will pick them up there, but please let me know so I know who to expect to pick up from.

For those of you with the tickets for preselling, please sell them for $5 each.  Your client will bring them to the car wash to redeem them for services.  Please turn in your money to me on Friday night at practice or at the Car Wash Saturday.  If you are at neither, you can turn in your money at the front office Friday morning along with the baked goods.  Again, please let me know so I know who to expect to collect money from.

For tickets that go unsold, please turn those in as well.

SENIOR SLIDE SHOW

For those of you Seniors who have not turned in your photos for the Senior Slide Show, it is IMPERATIVE that those pics get turned in VERY SOON.  The end of the season is right around the corner and slide shows need to be put together soon so we may have the opportunity to have copies made for you.  If we run out of time, no copies will be made possible.  Thank you for your understanding!

PASTA PARTY

We will have information forthcoming on the pasta party.  Please be checking for that information so you know what to contribute to the party.  We will be having the party on Thursday, October 28, 2010.  Practice is cancelled that day for you to rest and to have time for the party.  More information will be coming!

Please be in communication with me so I know what I will need to collect and when.

Thank you everyone!

Make it a great week,

Weekly Update

MANDATORY PRACTICE:              Tuesday, October 12, 2010

SPOOKTACULAR:             Saturday, October 9, 2010

SPOOKTACULAR WAS A GREAT SUCCESS!  THANK YOU TO ALL WHO VOLUNTEERED!!!

CAR WASH UPDATE:  Saturday, October 16, 2010

Thank you to Debbie Beaman for advertising our Car Wash in the AZ Republic this Thursday!!!  She is also trying to get a news station to come and broadcast from our car wash this Saturday!  Keep your fingers crossed!

We will be supplying candy for early trick-or-treating, bake sale items and face painting.  We have had many parents offer up support, however, we need the swimmers/divers to participate.  Volunteers are in great need:

      So far, the volunteers are:

                 9:30 – 11:45a
                 Miranda Quenneville
      Mackenzie Quinonez

     11:45 – 2p

     Shelby Head
                Megan Janetsky
                Ben Jones (after PSAT)
                Mackenzie Quinonez

Obviously, this is not enough kids for the car wash and of course we realize the PSAT is the same morning.  We need your reponses ASAP.  It is important that we make this a successful fundraiser.  We have to replenish our accounts of what we are using this year for items beyond what is paid for with the booster fee .  If we don’t, it will make things more difficult as we move on in years and it will then require parents pay more money.  The time slots are only 2 hours and 15 minutes.  Between all of us, we can have a much better showing than this.  Help out your team please!  Please RSVP – ASAP!

Boots and Heals Donations

Hi everyone, I thought I would send this reminder out this weekend in case you had some free time to shop for your contribution to our team basket.  So far, I have received $125.00 in cash, 2 candles, a lotion/bath gift box from the Body Shop, a gift certificate to a nail salon,  and a gift certificate to a hair salon. I have been promised but have not yet received a donation for a European facial as well.  Other ideas might include a robe/slippers, other lotions, massage gift certificates, etc.  This Tuesday is a mandatory practice, therefore I will be on deck before and at pick-up to accept any donations.  If you are short on time, cash or check donations made out to me (Amy Janetsky) are just fine.  I will do some shopping at the end of the month!  I would like to have all donations in by Halloween.  Also, we could use the donation of a basket to place all our items in!  Thanks to those of you who have donated!  Any questions, please contact me.

Have a great weekend, Amy Janetsky

Weekly Update

Hi Everyone,
The dive team had a great time on Friday for the dive portion of the Brophy Invite.  They also braved the heat, but had a good time.  Thank you divers for all of your hard work and your representing Pinnacle.   You are an integral part of this  team.
The team had a great showing  Saturday at the Brophy Invite with some absolutely  fantastic swims by our team and others alike.  It was a long, hot day, but the kids came through it admirably.  Next year we will move the tents towards the grass under the trees to allow for more comfortable arrangements.  The grass may end up being wet, so extra blankets and towels will be necessary, but it is better than the hot cool decking radiating heat.  Congratulations team for the great Combined win.
Also thank you to all the parents who supplied the kids with food and water for the meet.  We really appreciate it.
A little housekeeping note:  When we are at meets in general, it is important that we show respect for the location we are visiting as well as the other members of the team and support staff.  Please take care to clean up after yourselves.  There was a huge mess to be cleaned up Saturday that everyone should have participated in, but only a few were left to take care of.  We must all participate to help the team.  Thank you for taking measures to create a better environment for everyone.
MEET THIS WEEK - THURSDAY
VS. CHAPPARAL @ CACTUS PARK

7202 E. Cactus Rd
Scottsdale, AZ 85260

This is a dual meet (Millenium has declined to participate in this meet), with Chapparal only.
****Message from the LaPortes:  The Pinnacle Swim & Dive car decals have been found.  If you attend the meet on Thursday, the decals will be passed out for FREE!!  Be sure to be there to receive one.****

CAR WASH UPDATE
Thank you to those of you who have already responded to sign up for the car washes.  We are having a change of plans.  Coach Mike has informed us that he will be able to swim the whole team at the Last Chance Meet on the 30th.  We have cancelled the 9th and 30th and changed the date of the car washes to:
When: October 16 – SATURDAY
Where:  Taco Bell @ Beardsley & Cave Creek by the Costco
Time:  9:30a to set up – 2ish depending on flow of business
Volunteer Time Slots:
9:30 – 11:45a
11:45– 2:00p

There is no swim event that day, so there should be fewer conflicts for people.  Please respond asap to volunteer.  Everyone should be able to help out in some way.
PRESELL CAR WASH TICKETS

THANK YOU to Mrs. Beaman who is making coupons for the car wash for each swimmer/diver to presell enabling the purchaser to turn in their coupon for a car wash on 16th.     The coupons are $5 each and we are asking each swimmer / diver to sell 5 coupons.  As always, this is not Mandatory.   The coupons will be available at the meet Thursday for pick up.
I have received several emails regarding the fundraising and what it is used for.  We haven’t denoted anything specific for this fundraiser unlike Jamba Juice.  Jamba was specifically for the kids to be able to get new team sweats this year without parents being asked to spend more money.  However, there are many expenses the team incurs throughout the season that is not covered by our booster fees.  We have accounts to take care of these expenses, but those accounts cannot be left depleted at the end of the season.  It is necessary to replenish the accounts to ensure the future success of the team and our ability to meet the needs of the team without asking parents to incur more costs.  If you have any more questions regarding the finances of the team, our Treasurer – Todd LaPorte laportefamily@cox.net will be able to further answer your questions.  Thank you for your understanding and cooperation regarding this matter.

We are asking each family to donate one dozen cookies, cupcakes or whatever you would like to these carwashes.  We plan on selling them at the car wash for additional monies along with water.   The only stipulation is that the goods be Halloween related since it is the month of October.  Please let me know who will be bringing a baked good.  We will also supply candy for the kids that come with the adults to do a early trick-or-treating.
                OUR GOAL
Our goal is to raise between $750 and $1000.  It should take a minimal amount of effort and time to make this happen.  A couple of ideas to help get more people to these car washes:
                     Sell more than 5 coupon
Send an email to everyone you know letting them know of the car wash date.
Let all of your neighbors know about the date.
Mention it at your places of work.
If there is a message board a flier could be placed at, please do so.
Tell people at your church or other activities.
Candy is a draw for kids, so be sure to mention the early trick-or-treating.
I’m sure there are more ideas, but I’m out for now.
WE NEED THE FOLLOWING:  LET US KNOW WHAT YOU ARE BRINGING PLEASE.
                Signs made
                Rags
Towels / Chamois – great for reusing without waiting to dry out continuously
                Tents – We will bring
                Hose – We will bring
                Buckets – 8
                Sunscreen – Bring your own
Clothing – you can wear your bathing suits, but please keep it modest.

Weekly Update

This week’s activities are as follows:
WEEKLY SWIM MEET – There is no scheduled weekly swim meet this week.
MANDATORY PRACTICE -  Despite no swim meet, there is still a mandatory swim practice this Tuesday, September 21, 2010 from 6:30-8:00p.  You will receive information regarding the Brophy Invite at this meet.

Amy Janetsky will have a basket available for anyone who would like to drop off their "Boots and Heels" spa/beauty basket donations.
BROPHY INVITE – This takes place this Saturday, September, 25.  The bus departs from PHS at 6:30am.  Be sure to be there by 6:20p.  You may leave at the END of the meet with your parent(s), but your parents need to personally speak to one of the coaches at the meet to tell us you are riding home with them, so that we are legally released from liability, (But it must be your parent(s), it CANNOT be not someone else’s).
If your parents are not taking you home, you will ride the bus back to Pinnacle.
We will provide some water, but YOU need to make sure to bring some extra food and water to the meet.  We used to provide lunch and are no longer doing this as participation was very spotted and confusing.  It will be a hot, long day.  Food, water and sunscreen are essentials.
If parents are planning on attending, spectators are $3 each and programs are $3 each.  The meet will begin at 9a, so if you don’t want to be there at 7a, you’ve got a couple of hours.

WATER / SNACKS FOR MEETS
My husband and myself bring the tents and waters to each meet ourselves.  Due to our younger child getting out at 3p, we aren’t able to be at each meet right away.  It is IMPERATIVE that the swimmers / divers are taking care of their bodies by packing additional snacks and waters to satisfy them until we are able to get to the meets with the additional waters.  These items can’t ride on the bus as there is no space for it.  Please stress the importance of your children taking care of themselves.
Thanks Everyone!  If I have missed anything, be sure to send it to me and I will update the team!
