Weekly Update 9/1/2014

Hello!

It’s an exciting week for Pinnacle Swim & Dive! We have our first dual meet against Paradise Valley High School on Thursday!  The entire team will meet in the gym (E building) hallway and leave together right after school (around 2:30 pm). We will have snacks and water waiting for them before they board the bus. We should be arriving at the pool for warm up no later than 3:00 pm. We will be selling smoothies from Tropical Smoothie CafĂ© for $3.00, so invite your friends, family and neighbors to enjoy a smoothie and the first meet of the season!

Thank you to all those parents that volunteered to help with our home meets. The following are signed up for Thursday:
Lane 1: Sara Elich & ?? (Could not read handwriting)
Lane 2: Michele Sapero
Lane 3: Ken Reinstien
Lane 4: Nancy Lizzul & Tara Lauinger
Lane 5: Michele Fazio
Lane 6: Amber Kelly & Cheryl Johnson

  • We still need a few more timers so that we have 2 per lane.
  • Carol Schroedl has volunteered to help set up. If we could get one or two more to help with that, it would be much appreciated!
  • Ken Apel will be our official for both meets, thank you! I will need someone to help with the score sheet (Ken or I can give you a quick run down before the meet starts).
  • Lastly, we need a runner to pick up timing sheets throughout the meet for the scorer.
If you are interested, please reply to this email. Again, the coaches and athletes are so grateful for all the parent support!

Reminder: Buses will be taking athletes back to school from the pool. However, if you plan on taking your athlete home from the meet on Thursday, you need to have a release form signed and turned into me beforehand. I attached a copy for you to print or you can find them on the Pinnacle athletics page.

This WEDNESDAY: We are planning on receiving our t-shirts, caps, and swim suits by Wednesday, so if you can, please be there 15-20 minutes early (6:15ish), so that I can begin passing them out in an orderly fashion. Divers, you can either come back to pick them up or I can put them aside to give to you on Thursday.

Happy Labor Day! I hope you enjoyed the long weekend.
Go Pioneers!

Weekly Update 8/24/2014

Good morning!

I hope everyone is having a fun and relaxing weekend.  The amount of hard work being put in and out of the water has been great! Let’s keep it up! On Wednesday, I was very excited to see the team, as a whole, looking so strong and powerful. I’m sure Andrew can say the same for the divers! All the small details count towards achieving individual and team goals; whether it is giving 100% (not 95%) on fast swims or focusing on doing a perfect turn/dive. These first few weeks of the season are a crucial time for making sure technique and speed are a high quality.

A couple of things for the good of the order:

  • Picture day CHANGE…Instead of having our picture day this Wednesday, we will be having it on Wednesday September 10th. Please come to the pool at 5:30 pm to take individual pictures and then we will follow up with the team picture.

  • We have 4 Invitationals (for limited swimmers and divers) scheduled for the following dates:

Wolves Invite at Chandler High School:
Boys Diving: Tuesday, Sept. 16th
Girls Diving: Wednesday Sept 17
All swimming: Saturday September 20th
Brophy/Xavier Invite at the NEW Brophy Aquatics Facility (really excited about this!):
All swimming and diving: Saturday October 4th

AMDG Invite at Brophy Aquatics Facility
This is on November 1st
More information on this one to come!

District Meet - TBA

  • We have 13 families who have still not paid the booster fee. Make checks payable to Pinnacle Swim & Dive Boosters. I am checking with the finance office for unpaid sports fee ($200). All fees are due by September 2nd or you are in jeopardy of not competing on September 4th.

  • ATTENDANCE: In the first couple of weeks, I have noticed everyone is still sorting of their schedules and routines, but starting this week I must receive communication, in advance, from every swimmer regarding any practice they miss. To achieve our individual and team goals, I expect attendance at every practice.

See you on deck!

Athlete and Parent Team Meeting - August 17, 2014

Good Morning! Happy Saturday morning ☺
We all made it through the first week of school and practices! I’m very encouraged by the team’s enthusiasm and camaraderie…and it’s just the first week!

A couple of reminders for TOMORROW:
•1pm in the school auditorium. Parents and athletes are required to attend! If you have already talked to me about not attending, I will send you information!
•Remember each family is encouraged to donate a box of healthy snacks and a case of water for meet days. You will be putting them in a storage room located in the auditorium as you come in.
•Bring a checkbook for the booster fee.

Athlete reminders:
•PLEASE bring water/Gatorade to practices! It is still very hot and sticky and it is very important to stay hydrated.
•Practice is not optional, it is mandatory; we will have practice EVERY Friday. I know it’s the start of the weekend but the season goes by very fast and all the time that we get in the water is very precious!
•Equipment: start bringing equipment bags if you have them! We have kickboards and a few pull buoys for the team to use. However, I would highly recommend purchasing your own pull buoy and a pair of fins. You can get them at most sports stores or SkiPro.

I will answer any questions you may have tomorrow. I look forward to see you all at the meeting!

Update 8/10/2014

Hello! I'm getting so excited! Just a few more days until the start of a new school year, a new season, and many new fun-filled memories! Quick reminders: 1) Your athletic packets have to be cleared by TUESDAY for you to be able to participate in the water. I was informed that only 25 have been cleared as of yesterday. Please stop by school on Monday to hand it in or bring it to school on Tuesday to give to Nancy in the E building (during lunch or after school)! 2) I know a few of you have been asking about swimming invitational dates for recruiting purposes...Unfortunately, I cannot give you official dates since we haven't been "invited" yet but TENTATIVELY here are a few weekends to keep blocked off: 9/20 Wolves Invite (Chandler) 10/4 Brophy/Xavier Invite 10/11 this is the Saturday Night Fever Invite (Chandler) HOWEVER it may also be the night of Homecoming, so it might not happen. Still a good weekend to mark on your calendar! I'm still looking for other invites (including a last chance). The district meet will most likely be towards the end of the season and another chance to qualify! Divers can check with Andrew at 80andrew80@gmail.com to see when diving invitationals will be! 3) Lastly, practice starts Tuesday at 6:30 pm. I would like EVERYONE to be there for the beginning to do introductions. Club athletes can leave afterward (but you're more than welcome to stay!). Divers, I know you have an earlier practice time but we would love it if you could come back to do introductions as well! Wednesdays are mandatory practices for club swimmers, starting next week! Stay updated with emails on our team website: http://phsswimdive.blogspot.com/ Enjoy your last weekend of summer! It's going to be a great season! See you soon, Coach Paige

Practice Change Next Week

I found out that freshman orientation is next Monday night so TUESDAY August 12th will be our first practice from 6:30-8 pm (we'll be done a little early). We will do introductions but be prepared to get in the water. The pool is Paradise Valley Pool (city of Phoenix) located just north of PV high school on 40th street. Again, NO practice next Monday. Also, Nancy Katz is at walk thru this week to accept athletic packets! Coach Paige

AUGUST 2014 Update

Housekeeping business: • VERY IMPORTANT! Athletic packets have to be turned in by the first day of school for participation at practice on August 12th. Check to make sure you have TWO doctors’ signatures and freshman, make sure you print your certificate for the brain quiz! How do you turn them in? 1. You can hand them into Nancy Katz or Jay Thomas, who are in the E building (gym), throughout the week during normal school hours. DO NOT drop off the packets to the main office. 2. Or you can give them to me on Monday August 11th (explained below). • Parent meeting. The swim and dive parent meeting will be on SUNDAY August 17th from 1-2 pm in the school auditorium. I will review expectations for the season and share meet and fee information. Bring your checkbooks! ALSO, remember that every family needs to bring one box of snacks (granola bars, trail mix, fruit snacks, pretzels, etc.) and a case of water. Costco is a wonderful source! We will store these in our storage room in the auditorium and use them for meet days. • First practice is on MONDAY August 11th from 6-7 pm. We will NOT get in the water. First water practice will be August 12th from 6:30-8:15 pm. You will not be allowed in the water without your athletic packet turned in. I’m looking forward to a great season! Coach Paige

July 2014 Update - PHS Swim and Dive

Hello!

I’m sending out an email to remind everyone that dryland is being offered starting tomorrow afternoon! Jenny will be running these workouts in the weight room of the E building at Pinnacle. When facing the school from the student parking lot, the E building is to the left (go through the doors on the parking lot side).  The following are the dates for dryland:
7/14-7/17: M-Th 4-5 pm
7/21-7/23: M-W 4-5 pm
7/28-7/31: M-Th 4-5 pm
Please make sure athletes are picked up AT 5:00! Jenny is really excited to work with you!

During the parent meeting in August, I will review many of the details for the season, including expectations, fees, parent volunteers, and important dates. I will be asking each family to donate a case of water and a package or two of HEALTHY snacks (things like nature valley bars, fruit snacks, pretzels, nutria-grain bars, crackers, trail mix, etc.). If you can, Costco snacks are great for quantity and price! These snacks and the water will be provided to the team before every meet throughout the season.  The athletes are always very appreciative to have them! Also, If you would like to pay the team booster fees at the parent meeting, I would recommend bringing your checkbook.

On that note…there will be two separate fees to be a part of swimming and diving:
1) AIA  fee of $200, this can be paid online  through the webstore AFTER I turn in the official roster during the 2nd week of school. Or a check can be made out to AIA and turned in directly to Pinnacle in the finance office.
2) Booster fee of $140, this will be made out to PHS swim and dive and will be given to Todd LaPorte at the parent meeting or Kelly LaPorte in the College and Career center at Pinnacle. Things that are included in this fee for swimmers and divers are team suits, caps, t-shirt, meet entry fees, and banquet fee.
*Athletes must have their own practice suits, caps, and goggles. Equipment will be provided but I would highly recommend investing in fins and a kickboard, we will be using them quite a bit. They can be found at most sporting good stores.
**Tax Credit…Parents, this is separate from AIA and booster fees but any monies donated for full tax credit go straight to the team.  It’s a great fundraiser! $200 for single parent or up to $400 for married.

Make sure you are working on your athletic packet! You cannot swim until all of it (including the brain quiz for freshman) is completed.

Just one more month until school starts! Looking forward to seeing most of you again and meeting our newcomers!
